Frequently Asked Questions?
What age groups does Gateway Club offer?
Our Club teams are open to girls in U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, and U-19. While the club teams are typically for girls in grades 3 - 12 we do allow younger girls to participate if they are up for it!
What age groups do you offer other programs for?
Gateway Leagues, Gateway Camps, and Gateway Academy are open to athletes in grades Kindergarten - 12th grade. We welcome athletes from four years old - 18 years old at league and camp!
Why would Gateway Club be right for my daughter/family?
Gateway Club provides top level instruction to all of our club members. We teach our athletes to be leaders, teammates, and citizens on and off the field while demonstrating positive sportsmanship. All of our club athletes are taught the most current and ages appropriate skills and game concepts to further their field hockey game.
If my daughter plays in Gateway Club can she play other sports?
Gateway Club always promotes our athletes to be versatile and play whatever sports they would like! As recommended by many college coaches, the girls are encouraged to play at least one other sport to avoid injury and burnout. We practice once or twice a week to allow for other sports and activities. When our seniors depart after years of Gateway Club they have a love and passion for field hockey!
Do you offer goalkeeping sessions?
Yes! During our Club seasons our goalies have a specific session where they are trained on the latest goalkeeping skills! We also offer goalie training during our team training sessions! We are also looking to do a goalie clinic this spring/summer!
Why does Gateway Club have a year round membership?
Like volleyball, soccer, and baseball select teams the Gateway the year round club program. The year round club team allows for consistent play throughout the year and it is cost effective. The year round club includes everything: all four leagues, camp, team training, skills and fitness training, and college recruiting assistance. All of these are valued at over $1400. By being a Gateway Club member the costs are reduced to pay a one time fee and include everything.
If my daughter is brand new to field hockey, what program should she do?
We strongly suggest registering for the New Player Clinic followed by the seasonal league. The New Player Clinic will teach the basics of the game and the league will give you a 20 minute practice followed by a game. We also suggest the Gateway Academy for new players as that provides practices that run during the league season.
What if there is bad weather? How do we find out of the program is cancelled?
You can check the website at www.gatewayfieldhockey.com or call the recording number at 636-458-6354 to check to see if there is a delay or cancellation.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes! Any of our Gateway coaches can do private lessons. However, we suggest registering for Gateway Stride sessions to get a small group lesson. It is beneficial to do a lesson with a small amount of athletes to get more touches on the ball while still practicing game like skills.
