Academy is a great option for beginner or intermediate players that love field hockey and want to develop their skills without a huge commitment of time to the sport. They may sign up for individual sessions in Fall, Winter, and Spring. They train one time per week and do not have to play in the league on the weekends, but can as an option. Gateway Skills and Drills Academy was introduced to St. Louis in 2005 as an option to practice during the seasons without joining the Gateway Club. Academy sessions are typically seven weeks and coincide with Gateway league for each season (spring, fall, and winter). Academy is a great stepping stone before joining Gateway Club. Each week the Academy coaches focus on various skills including: passing, receiving, hitting, sweeping, lifting, defending, 2v1 concepts, goal scoring, attacking, and much more! Academy is a great option for new players!
