Gateway is excited to INVITE you to join our Club. This Saturday begins our winter training!  ANYONE is welcome to attend.  The training session will be ran as a practice and a tryout.  All current club members are encouraged to be in attendance, and anyone who is new or interested in seeing what we offer please come as well.  This is a series of 3 clinics, $50 for anyone not currently in the club program. 

This Saturday, December 4th, at Priory:
9-10 AM (U-10, U-12, Goalies)
10- 11 AM (U-14)
11- 12 PM (U-16)
12- 1 PM (U-19)

Personally, I'm very pleased with the play of our four teams at the Festival.  All four were in strong pools and each team played very well.  Good job girls!

A special congratulations and good luck to former Gateway players, Morgan Clark (Ohio State University) and Elizabeth Stephens (University of North Carolina). 

We are so proud of them, and it is an honor to have them represent our club.  We  wish them the best of luck as they compete this weekend in College Park, Maryland for the National Title.  ]]>Mon, 15 Nov 2010 20:45:51 -0800http://www.gatewayfieldhockey.com/2/post/2010/11/congratulations-university-at-albany.htmlGateway Field Hockey is very proud of Nina Walters (Sophomore), Michelle Simpson (Assistant Coach), and Andy Thornton (Associate Head Coach) for their unbelievable 2010 season.  University at Albany lost in overtime to Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament.  Unfortunately, their season has come to an end, but congratulations for all their 2010 success.

Nina, Michelle, and Andy have become an integral part of the Gateway Family.  


ANDY:  Ten years ago Andy flew in from Scotland to coach Gateway summer camps, little did he know 105 Camps later he would still be Gateway's finest and most dedicated coach.  Andy's loyalty and professionalism carries over to his career as the Associate Head Coach at the University at Albany.  He is also the current Head Coach of US Women's Indoor National Team.  Andy is not only an exceptional coach, but an unbelievable player, as he has garnered many indoor and outdoor international championships.  
   
MICHELLE:  Much like Andy, Michelle has a long history of coaching for Gateway.  During her time working with Gateway, Michelle was recruited to play at the University at Albany.  Michelle had the opportunity to compete for three years as a Division 1 Athlete and earn a degree as an international student.  As a player Michelle lead Albany to a Big East Championship, and an NCAA Appearance.  This year she had the same success, the only difference being she was a coach on the sideline.  Michelle has spent many holidays with Gateway:  Thanksgivings at the Festival and Christmas' at the Yates household.  Michelle is often associated as  being Kate and Meg's adopted English sister.  

NINA:  It has been a pleasure watching Nina develop into such a smart and composed player.  Nina picked up her first field hockey stick during Gateway Junior Camp the summer before her freshman year of high school.  She then had the opportunity to play with Meg O'Connell under coach Kelly Yates (and Kate O'Connell) at Lafayette High School.  After countless Gateway camps, leagues, tournaments, and US Field Hockey programs; Nina found herself at the University at Albany.  Nina is the perfect of example, that with a lot of hard work and a big heart, anything is possible.  Nina did not just learn the game of field hockey, she became a natural.  And to this day, her skills and gamesmanship continue to improve.  Nina's competitive spirit and positive attitude are contagious.  She is a joy to coach and an honor to play with.  We are excited to follow the rest of her collegiate field hockey career, and only the best is yet to come.
